Places to stay in Caravan Parks Sydney or camping in Sydney

You might be looking for a caravan park in Sydney, camp ground or just a place to pitch your tent. And if you're looking for a place to park your campervan or motorhome then this is the place to find it.

When you search for a place to stay there are a few priorities you would normally have. It may be because it is close to where you want to be, it may be that it is family orientated or it may be the price that determines your choice. But what you really want is a caravan park or camping spot, campground that has clean toilets and showers and is value for money. If the staff are friendly and helpful all the better! Sydney caravan parks and camping areas offer a wide range of choices as far as quality is concerned . So be aware!

Being in a caravan park that is close to Sydney city can have advantages but when you consider the difference in travelling time maybe the advantage isn't that great. The distances quoted below are the road distances and use Wynyard railway station as a measuring point to be consistent. Wynyard station is very close to the city end of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and very central to the main tourist sites.

A bit lower down this page is a link to a comprehensive list of the caravan parks within the Sydney metro region.

Lane Cove River Tourist Park and Caravan Park

at Macquarie Park is one of the largest caravan parks in the Sydney area  (more information on Lane Cove Caravan Park is available here)  and is accepted as the closest caravan park and camping area to Sydney city. They have a range of family cabins as well. It's 10 kilometres North-West of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and 12 kms from Wynyard railway station in the city. It has very good public transport options for getting around but there are very few options at the caravan park to entertain children. In reality it's a very good caravan park with a swimming pool, TV room, good clean facilities and a small playground as the only entertainment on offer within the caravan park.

Very popular due to the fact that it is so close to Sydney and good value for families because children 12 and under are free on sites. The Lane Cove Caravan Park and camping area is in Lane Cove National Park so bushwalking and the river are not far away (10 minute walk). Comprehensive directions to get to Lane Cove River Tourist Caravan Park and camping Also how to get to Tandara. For more information about Tandara, follow this link. Lane Cove River Tourist Park no longer has an individual website but the information within my pages is accurate and comprehensive. The old websites were http://www.lanecoverivertouristpark.com.au and http://www.lcrtp.com.au Up to date information can be found here.

Sydney Lakeside Holiday Park

http://www.sydneylakeside.com.au at North Narrabeen on Sydney Northern Beaches is probably the biggest caravan park in Sydney and is 25 kilometres North of the the city. Sydney Lakeside is very close to the beach at North Narrabeen. Public transport direct to the city is by bus. Another good way to get to Sydney city from here is via bus to Manly ferry wharf and a 35 minute ferry ride. Ferry information. Sydney Lakeside is about a 40 minute drive from Lane Cove Caravan Park.

Sydney Hills Holiday Park

There are two more caravan parks North-west and West of Sydney city that are popular. Dural has the Sydney Hills Holiday Park http://www.sydneyhillsholidaypark.com.au which has good access for public transport to the city of Sydney and is 31 kilometres from the city. A nice caravan park with helpful and friendly staff. More details here.

Sydney Gateway Holiday Park

in the suburb of Stanhope Gardens.  http://www.sydneygateway.com.au This caravan park is 40 kilometres from Wynyard railway station. Public transport to Sydney city is limited but with the right planning it will take about one hour 10 minutes to an hour and a half. Try Trip planner via public transport. to see options regarding public transport. UPDATE. This caravan park no longer accepts casual stays.

A bit further out are some caravan parks on the outskirts of Sydney. A bit further afield but some great locations for a caravan park right on the Hawkesbury River system. Have a look at Hawkesbury Riverside Tourist Park. This caravan park, and others nearby, offer boat ramps and water skiing from the caravan park. These caravan parks have camping sites available as well. lane Cove Caravan Park is the closest quality caravan park to Sydney city itself.

Another caravan park which is close to Sydney is called Shiralee at Rockdale. The park is full of permanent residents and is very basic. They don't have a website which in this day and age is unusual to say the least. This caravan park is 16 kilometres from Wynyard station.
